I set aside three days in the nation’s Capitol. The I would try to see as much as possible, but the sheer enormity if the task was daunting. There are about 10 museums for every person living in the DC metro area, so I would have to choose my battles wisely. The greatest concentration is the Mall and immediate vicinity. I still have to sort out the large number of photos for each individual museum, so for today I’ll post the pice of the city and some notable structures. The city center is a vibrant city, a busy modern metropolis. Its old by American standards and for most of its history has had a lot of attention and money lavished on it. It shows.
My hotel is on the near north side of the city center in a residential neighborhood with some restaurants and a few embassies. I’m struck by the diversity of people. I’ve always thought of the Bay Area as being very progressive and diverse, but after spending time in Philly, Pittsburgh and now DC, it seems quite segregated.

Glad you are getting to spend 3 days there. Our travels thru D.C. were far too brief. Hope you will get to spend some time with Cheryl. She should be an asset, since she’s been there several months now.

Scott – your photo of the White House is the best I’ve ever seen! I swear (like a truck driver) you are an amazing photographer.

Thanks Julie, that was shot with my iPhone jammed through the fence, then cropped like crazy ( no telephoto lens on the phone).
