Day 56 – Southern Pines

In January I was here in North Carolina for Philip and Rachel’s wedding (a really cool one, see pic below). Philip is Sally’s nephew for those not up on Van Hesteren genealogy. Her family is my family though, so when I refer to them it is always as “my” nephew or niece or cousin. Anywho…
Since I had just seen the newlyweds, this would be a short visit. It rained a bit on the way south, but the overcast skies were a welcome break from the murderous heat. I seemed that if I wanted to guarantee light or no rain, all I had to do was get into my rain gear. If I didn’t and took a chance, the odds are it would rain.
We got a bit of a late start and didn’t end up meeting until 9:30 pm. I had already booked my next two nights and so couldn’t stay an extra day. We had a good meal, some nice wine and great conversation. We spoke a bit about their plans, which are wide open now. I encouraged them to travel a bit. Philip gave me a cool piece of based on a watch. It suggested my trip and the casual relationship with time I have had, following the road where it takes me, not caring how long something will take. It meant a lot to be in their thoughts.
