The ride through North Carolina to Atlanta was overcast but thankfully not scorching. The dull ache in my lower back from the day before had come back twofold. I was very much looking forward to seeing Donna and her new wife Ashley. They had been married last April and Sally and I chose not to go to their wedding so she would have money for her trip to Mexico. It was a sensible decision but I regret it anyways (like so many things nowadays). I met Donna about twenty years ago when she and Melanie were dating, and have lived with her several times over the last two decades. Donna added it up and all told we have spent over four and a half years living together. In California that might be close to a common law marriage.
I consider Donna family, like the sister I never had. She has an innate goodness ti her character that always sees the best in any situation and appreciates the goodness in everyone. It has been a blessing to have her in my life.
She and Ashley welcomed me with open arms and for a week I felt at home. My back ache became more serious and I had several chiropractic treatments which helped greatly. I took this as a sign that I should rest a bit and not keep on pushing myself to cover so much ground, some thing several people had encouraged me to do earlier in the trip.
While in Atlanta we hung out with friends, watched movies, had some home cooked meals, drank too much, rearranged their living room and saw some roller derby. I did almost no touristy things, and that was just fine. It was very relaxing, just what I needed.

Wow !! Looks like the visit in Atlanta was well worth all the painful miles you experienced, after the back pains hit you!
So glad you were able to spend several days with dear friends Donna & Ashley. I recall well how Sally raved on about how she adored them both, and how happy she was that they had found each other. So happy that you were able to connect with a chiropractor who could help put your back into “travel mode”. Looks like that latest storm is heading for Florida, so traveling West is definitely a great idea, especially since our temps are now averaging about 10 degrees cooler than this time last year!!
