On my way out I stopped by Jan and Marystella’s place in Santa Rosa for a visit. They have also had a changing year (who hasn’t? It’s crazy.) Marystella was there 20 years ago when Sally and I were needing a place to live and had a big part in us getting together. A few years later Jan married us.

The trip up was beautiful, lots of brown rolling hills and live oaks. Typical northern California scenery. A few orchards and farms sprinkled in.

Then around Redding it began to change. Mount Shasta’s snowy peak kept me company for hours, always in the background.

The trees began to change from live oaks to a piney looking evergreen. It was a bit warm in Red Bluff. The motorcycle gear in this temperature was like a punishment from Cool Hand Luke.

Not a bad day, about three hundred and fifty miles traveled. And I did feel like I was someplace different when I woke up.
