A three hour rides brings me to Alberta’s largest and most cosmopolitan city, Calgary.
I have discovered an even more miserable way to travel by motorcycle than in the rain. Presenting – gusting winds! The 80 mph blasts of intermittent air blow the bike over half a lane every minute or so. It feels like a drunken god has grabbed me by the lapels and is shaking me at random intervals. This helps to pass the time on the relatively straight highway that passes through landscape similar in interest to a government office building. At the requisite purgatorial chain gas/fast food/rest stop between cities I get a large coffee and stretch my legs. The wind is much less severe for the second half of the trip.
The city itself is far different from Edmonton even though they are similar in size. Edmonton is so much more relaxed. Calgary feels like a big city with all the hustle and traffic you would expect.
The Yamaha needs an oil change (can’t believe I’ve already traveled 3000 miles!). While that’s getting done I take the light rail into downtown and see some galleries and art museums (unfortunately no photography allowed in the main galleries).

Sounds fun though harrowing at times. I’m taking a week off hanging with the kid during their summer break. I hope I get a chance to do a ride like this sometime.

    Hey Scott,

Love your updates. FYI, I just tried to view farther back, and was unable to. It reports and error.
